What is Search Engine Optimization?
There are millions of websites on the World Wide Web and each one will be visited over time by a number of search engine 'spiders' or 'bots' - programs that index page content for use later in processing search requests.
When users make searches, hundreds of pages of results can be generated and it's important that your website features as close to the top of the first page of these search results as possible.
One means of improving the ranking of your website in these results is to optimize its visibility to the search engines' spiders as they trawl through the web. These spiders use specialist algorithms (program code) to locate, analyse and store the contents of the websites they visit - and they typically return more meaningful results if the sites that they visit have been coded and structured in a particular way.
Although no web designer can guarantee that your website will feature at the top of the first page of a set of search results (beware of companies who promise they can achieve this in return for large quantities of their clients' money) there are a number of straightforward techniques that can be used to make your site more search engine-friendly and which taken together will improve the visibility of your site - and improve its position in a list of search results.
These techniques vary from ensuring that your site features a number of relevant and recognisable keywords through well structured code to things like good spelling and grammar - things which, individually, might not seem significant but which taken together can really make a big difference to the ranking of your site in search results.
Wilson Web Design uses a wide range of these techniques to help you improve the visibility of your site and thus improve your position in search engine results rankings - and without charging you huge sums of money.
