Website Design - Charges and Prices
Rather than provide a single price for what may, or may not, be a typical design and development project we prefer to quote individually for projects based on our very competitive fee of £25.00 per hour.
This means that a 5 page website that is very straightforward for us to develop, and takes perhaps 10 hours to complete, would involve a total cost of £250.
Alternatively, a 5 page site that is less straightforward to design and produce (perhaps we need to create all the graphics, develop alternative templates for you to choose from or maybe include a password protected area) might take twice as long for us to develop and cost around £500.
Whatever the scale of the project, we will discuss it thoroughly with you beforehand and agree a quotation based on the anticipated workload.
Wilson Web Design concentrates on supplying web design services to SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) including small businesses, clubs and charities, and is itself a small business. Because we're a small business ourselves, we know exactly how important every penny can be and our website design fees, and our quotations, reflect this.
New Sites - Some Costing Considerations
In general, the cost of a website varies enormously based on the number of pages required, the complexity and content of the pages themselves and the number of graphics created and used across the site.
Whether a site is comprised of a single page or of 50 pages, there are a number of basic design costs that website owners should be aware of. All sites are built around a template, a common look, such as a corporate banner, a consistent page layout and a common user navigation system that features across the whole site. Typically this template would be developed from the 'look and feel' established by the site's home page.
Whilst it's impossible to quote exactly for any given project without first discussing it with a client the guideline prices we outlined above are good starting points. The important thing, from a cost point of view, is to understand from the beginning how long each of the required elements (template development, graphic elements, number of pages) will take to produce, given the content and complexity of each page, and so how much the overall project cost will come in at.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
As a matter of course, Wilson Web Design builds SEO into all of the websites we design at no extra cost.
Nobody can guarantee that their SEO strategy will be so successful that your site will always appear at the top of search engine enquiry listings - so beware of people who say that they can. However, making your site search engine friendly is undoubtedly good practice and will help your site to stand out from others in its field of activity. We can help you to achieve this on your existing site on a consultancy basis by advising and designing-in SEO techniques. Again we charge £25 per hour for this service.
Website Re-design
If you already have a website that you are reasonably happy with but feel needs updating or improving, then a cost effective alternative to creating a brand new site could be to modernise what you've already got. This could mean retaining its existing look and feel and graphics, but re-designing its layout, navigation and contents, or it could mean adding new content or functionality.
The amount of work involved obviously depends on the amount of re-design work required and you have to be careful not to undertake so much re-design that a completely new look might have been a better solution.
Like all our work, we charge £25.00 per hour to do this and it's amazing what impact 8-10 hours worth of work can have on a tired looking website. As with new site development, we provide a quotation based on full discussions with our clients and all re-design work is carried out to this agreed costing.
Site Maintenance
Of all the 'add-ons' that website owners require, none is more important (indeed vital) than a maintenance arrangement that keeps your site up to date.
Wilson Web Design offers on-going site maintenance - the updating of existing content, addition of new content and the on-going development of the site itself - at the normal hourly rate of £25, so you pay only for any work that we carry out.
